Your Partner in Practical Growth

Joanna Miller is a fundraising consultant, writer, and speaker based in Maryland. With over 15 years of nonprofit fundraising experience spanning major gifts, prospect research, donor operations, and consulting, Joanna has closed more than $1.7 million in gifts.

Her background includes leadership and development roles at organizations such as Rock Creek Foundation, Round House Theatre, and the Kennedy Center, as well as data analytics consulting at Graham Pelton and prospect research and wealth screening work at WealthEngine. This mix of frontline fundraising and analytical, data-driven experience gives her a distinctive ability to combine relationship-based development with rigorous donor research and strategy.

Through JMC, Joanna partners with nonprofits to build fundraising calendars, donor capture protocols, individual giving programs, and CRM-based donor operations — helping organizations move from ad hoc fundraising to sustainable, data-informed development practices.

Joanna's career spans continents and disciplines — from launching development programs abroad in Australia at the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, to a nationally ranked competitive speaking background that sharpened her ability to move rooms and donors alike, to spearheading groundbreaking new fundraising programs at multiple nonprofits. She also testified before the Maryland State House and Senate as part of work that prevented 9,000 DC-area families from experiencing homelessness during the worst of the pandemic.

Outside of her consulting work, Joanna also runs a successful small business in the wedding industry — because one passion project is never enough. Whether she's helping a bride or a board of directors, she shows up the same way: prepared, practical, and genuinely invested in your success.
