Re-Elect Mayor Sandy Jones

Monthly Mayoral Reports

Bowling Green City Government operates under the "City Manager" form of government. With that structure our citizens are represented by an elected body called the "Board of Commissioners." These elected officials serve as the policy level, oversight body.

The responsibilities of the day to day operations of the city fall under the jurisdiction of our City Manager, Charles Coates. My 4-year term as Mayor began on January 1, 2001. My job description as "mayor" varies greatly.

Probably the most frequent question that I am asked relates to "just what does the mayor of Bowling Green DO?" With that question in mind, via periodic updates to these web pages, I attempt to outline a general play-by-play of my activities as I serve this community.

I view my position as mayor to be that of a "public servant".  The city's budget allows a little over $13,000 per year to compensate the mayor.  I choose however not to accept compensation for my service. My position is considered "part time" and I am free to work my responsibilities around the rest of my personal and corporate life. As I mentioned, our city’s 10 department heads and over 450 employees do not report directly to the mayor’s office. That being stated, I will attempt to fill you in on the inner workings of Bowling Green City Government through journal-like entries reflecting the work that I do for the community that I love.
